After reading a few bad reviews on various
review websites I was scared incase the hotel was as bad as some
people said. I was please to find a lovely basic hotel with a
lovely atmosphe and friendly staff. The staff are lovely, and
extremely patient with rude guests. The breakfast is continental
and yes, it's the same every day, but then I have the same
breakfast at home most days, it's perfectly adequate. Top marks
go to the lovely Irini who runs the pool bar. She is a total
delight and very happy to teach you Greek as the week goes on.
The pool itself was cleaned every day to remove leaves etc and
provided many hours of pleasure. Gouvia has lots of restaurants to last you 2 weeks try them all, especially the one where the waiters throw fire around and do greek dancing...its always packed and the food is brilliant. The Molfetta bar down by the beach has some great evenings with greek dancing. Debono is a perfect base, its not luxury but to have breakfast and sleep in its absolutely fine. Go with an open mind, explore the island and really make the most of your time there. |

The hotel was much better than I expected
and, although breakfast wasn't up to much, this didn't matter as
we hadn't planned to use the breakfast option, even though we
had booked B&B. The resort itself is lovely - a long stretch of beach that is shallow for a considerable distance, which I think would be fantastic for those with children. Plenty of restaurants including English-run pubs where the less adventurous can get their traditional English meals and drinks, with entertainment in the evening and sports showing for those who can't miss the football/cricket/Formula One! There are a number of other restaurants in the resort - I would recommend the Mexican for something different, and Crusoes and Afrodite on the beach front are great for choice at lunchtime. A walk along the beach and up into the neighbouring resort of Acharavi is a must, as The Pumphouse is a lovely little restaurant offering superb food - including the best meatballs that we had on the island! All in all, a great holiday, where we definitely got more than we expected given the price we paid!. |
